Debunking Common Myths About Breast Augmentation

MYTH: Breast implants increase my risk of cancer.

While this is a common claim, there is no scientific literature to support it. In fact, the implants we use are all FDA-cleared, which means they have been rigorously tested and found to be safe.

There is a potential link between breast implants and anaplastic large-cell lymphoma, but this condition is still vanishingly rare. In fact, clinicians are unsure as to what type of causation exists between this condition and breast augmentation.

MYTH: If I get implants, it will be impossible for me to breastfeed my children.

Actually, the research shows that women who get implants typically have no problem breastfeeding. When problems do arise, it is at about the same rate as it is among women who have not had breast augmentation.

If you have concerns about your ability to breastfeed following breast augmentation, talk to your surgeon about ways to mitigate any potential risk.

MYTH: I will need to have my implants replaced often.

Many women enjoy their implants for 20 years or more before they need to be replaced. And as implant technology advances, the longevity of the average implant increases.

MYTH: Breast augmentation will cause me to lose feeling in my breasts.

Some women do experience short-term loss of nipple sensation, but this is almost always temporary. Permanent loss of nipple sensation is extremely uncommon.
