Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast reduction surgery is performed under anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Small incisions will be made where the fat, tissue and excess skin is removed. The contours of the breast are reshaped, the size of the areola is reduced and the nipple and areola are raised. Stitches are used to close up the incision and the breasts are then bandaged for protection. Your breasts may be swollen, sore, tender, or bruised immediately following the procedure, but a compression garment will aid in your recovery. Desk work can typically be resumed one to two weeks after a breast reduction and more strenuous activities can be gradually increased over time. The scars resulting from the incisions are easily covered up by bras or bathing suit tops and will fade over time.
