Forehead Lift or Neck Lift: Which is Right For You?

There are a number of cosmetic procedures available to address nearly every part of the human body. And two popular options are forehead lifts and neck lifts. So which one is right for you?

What is a Forehead Lift?

A forehead lift smoothes out horizontal wrinkles and restores the appearance of the forehead for a more youthful and attractive look. The procedure typically includes a lifting of the eyebrows to correct any drooping brows or frown lines. 

A forehead and eyebrow lift is often performed in conjunction with a face lift or eyelid lift. 

What is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift addresses the area below the jaw line, tightening up loose or saggy skin and eliminating the “turkey neck.” 

Like a forehead lift, a neck lift is often performed at the same time as a face lift.

Procedure and Recovery Time: Forehead Lift vs. Neck Lift 

Forehead lifts and neck lifts are quite similar in terms of the procedure.

A forehead or brow lift takes 1-2 hours to perform, while a neck lift takes slightly longer. Both procedures use local anesthesia with intravenous sedation medication. Both procedures require 1-2 small incisions – behind the hairline for a forehead lift and behind the ear and under the chin for a neck lift. The muscles, fat and tissue responsible for the loose skin are removed or tightened and the incisions are sutured shut. 

Recovery Time: Forehead Lift vs. Neck Lift

Like the procedure itself, the recovery time for a forehead lift and neck lift are identical. Desk work may be resumed within a week while more strenuous activities can be performed after around three weeks from the day of the surgery. 

Which Procedure is Right For You?

With the procedure and recovery times for forehead lifts and neck lifts being similar, which one is right for you?

Ultimately it depends on which area of your body you wish to address. Those with defined forehead wrinkles, frown lines and drooping eyelids may elect for a forehead and brow lift. Those with loose or saggy skin below the jawline may benefit more from a neck lift.
